Bricks are still the popular units when building masonry walls. And thanks to the advancement of time, the technique of dealing with brick masonry has also become more advanced. Brick masonry is created by laying the brick in a flat pattern and bonding them using cement mortar. Here our brickwork contractor will discuss the construction of brick masonry and the precautions in relation to the construction.
It is vital that the materials used will conform to the specifications as prescribed in either the contract document or drawings. Using low-grade sub-standard materials, such as bricks, cement, water, sand, in the wrong quantities can affect the quality of construction.
Most of the standard manuals will come with the specified qualities of construction materials, so you will need to check the quality of the building materials that you are considering using.
The Quality of Water Used
The quality of water that is used on the construction site is often just potable water. It must have good pH values, ranging from 6.5 to 7.5% of alkalis is the absolute limit. The water must not be salty, and in cases where a small work quantity is needed, salty water has to be treated with 10 ml of Hydro Chloride solution to every 100 liters of water.
The total concentration level of TDS as set by the EPA is 500 mg/L. The World Health Organization has stated that an acceptable limit of 500 mg/L, and as per Bureau of Indian Standards guidelines is 500 mg/L, and 2000 mg/L is the permissible limit. So any portable water that has more than 2000 mg/L cannot be used.
Water should also be free from any and all suspended matter and vegetables. It must be tested visually, and in a laboratory, as salty water is not recommended to use in construction.
